51 De Oude Zijpe calling at the Cape in March 1715 when their

marriage is recorded in the Cape marriage registers. Its last

recorded call at the Cape was May 1714. Perhaps he left the ship

there. His date of leaving the service is given as 02-12-1716,

place not stated. Was that, perhaps, the date of his death?

65 In her petition to the Council of Policy, 15th June 1723, she states that she, with her husband, had five children, three of whom were still living at that date.

That for the first nine years of their marriage he was a good husband, even tempered and considerate (betaamt en toestaat) but that over the last six years he had been ruined by becoming a drunkard, which

was not only reflected in his domestic affairs and occupation, and in beating his wife, but he was no longer providing for his family, reducing her children to begging.

The farm was falling into ruin, the animals no longer tended, the slaves fleeing because of his brutality in his drunken state. He was refusing to see his wife, forcing his eldest son to drink with him and, in his worst states asking his children for rope with which to hang himself.

She therefore requested permission to sue for divorce, which permission was granted.

66 In July 1998 Gavin, Titch and Antony moved to England for a safer and more secure future. Back to the Eales's Roots arriving in England with 5 suitacses, £800. In April 2006, Gav had a very big gap in his life fulfilled. He was reunited with Clinton and Morgan after Tracy his second wife ran away with the two babies. Gav's life had become complete and he was extremely content with how things were going. Getting to know Clinton and Morgan was Gav's aim and one can say his last goal to achieve in his life. His two children spent weekends with Gavin and Titch and they all started to find out about each others trials and tribulations. It wasn't easy for any of them, but they are all very grateful that Gavin had the opportunity of seeing his children after so many years. Gavin received the next greatest bit of news from his eldest son Roger and his wife Merch, they were having a baby, Gavin's first Grandchild. Just after her birth in January 2007 Gavin took ill and after being so strong and brave throughout it all finally lost his battle with a Brain Tumar, peacefully passing on, on the 6th of May 2007 and has taken to the skies on his Honda Goldwing. (A dream that Gavin was saving for, so he could take Titch touring around the country side) Ride the Stars Gav... Eales, Gavin (I3630)

82 Raats, Abraham Daniël, B.A.: L.1932; 0.1933 Bloemfontein-Noord (Hpr.); 1936 Ladybrand; 1944 Germiston; 1947 Alberton-Wes. Daarna staan hy in Ladybrand (1936), Germiston (1944), Alberton-Wes (1947). Raats, Abraham Daniel (I1769)

Lida spent day and night next to his bed, with visits from his two daughters and grand children daily. Tuesday the 4th in the afternoon with Lida and Jenny at his bedside the Doctor very happy with his progress, told him that he could go home the following morning. Before Lida left that night Robert asked her if she minded him staying one more day, he did not feel up to going home just yet. Lida told him that he could take as long as he needed.
